ARTIST STATEMENT

My practice begins where reality and unreality overlap, and where the sense of the hand meets the digital image.

An imperfect hand-knitted wallet, raw photographs from everyday life, and my grandmother’s tentative felt-tip drawings are transformed through generative AI into new scenes. I build layers within an image through a repeated process of making objects, photographing them, and translating them back into AI-generated imagery. At times, I continue experimenting within the errors produced by AI. This process allows me to find small gaps and misalignments, spaces where air can move, and to bring an analogue touch into the image.

I explore how different layers of reality can coexist within a single scene. By creating images in which reality and fiction remain undivided, and the tactile and the digital are held together, I question the ways in which images shape our perception of reality.

나의 작업은 현실과 비현실, 손의 감각과 디지털 이미지가 겹치는 지점에서 시작된다.

직접 만든 엉성한 뜨개질 지갑, 일상을 담은 날 것의 사진들, 할머니의 서툰 싸인펜 드로잉은 생성형 AI를 거쳐 새로운 장면으로 변환된다. 오브제를 만들고 촬영하고 다시 AI 이미지로 변환하는 과정을 반복하며 이미지의 층을 쌓아 가고, 때로는 AI가 만든 오류 안에서 새로운 실험을 이어가기도 한다. 이는 작은 틈과 어긋남, 바람이 드나드는 여유를 찾고 아날로그적 손길을 더하기 위한 작업 방식이다.

나는 서로 다른 현실의 층위가 한 장면 안에서 어떻게 함께 존재할 수 있는지 탐구한다. 현실과 허구가 분리되지 않은 상태, 손의 감각과 디지털 이미지가 함께 머무는 장면을 만들어내며, 이미지를 통해 현실을 인식하는 방식 자체를 다시 질문한다.
